Le Doberman albinos est une variété de Doberman qui a subi une mutation génétique appelée albinisme. Concrètement, cette mutation se manifeste par le blanchiment de la route métabolique de la production de mélanine, ce qui se traduit par une absence de pigmentation des yeux, de la truffe et de la peau. C'est pourquoi ils ont une fourrure blanche, des yeux clairs et la truffe rose. On pourrait aussi l'appeler "doberman blanc".

Pourquoi est-ce qu'il y a des dobermans blancs ?
Chez les Dobermans, comme pour les autres races de chiens, l'albinisme se produit par des mutations génétiques qui causent l'absence ou la réduction du pigment, appelé mélanine, qui donne la couleur de la peau, des yeux et de la fourrure. C'est un trouble héréditaire récessif, ce qui veut dire qu'il faut que les deux géniteurs aient ce gène pour que se produise l'albinisme.
De manière plus concrète, ce qui se passe, c'est que la voie métabolique qui transforme l'acide aminé tyrosine en mélanine via l'enzyme tyrosinase est interrompue. En tout cas, si l'on fait abstraction de l'absence de couleur, qui fait que ces dobermans sont blancs et sans pigment au niveau de la truffe et des yeux, ces chiens ont des caractéristiques similaires à celles des dobermans non albinos.
Tous les dobermans blancs sont albinos ?
Oui. La réponse à cette question est oui, car s'il ne s'agit pas d'une conséquence de l'albinisme, aucun chien de couleur claire ne naîtrait. En effet, le pelage blanc de ces chiens n'est pas accepté dans les concours ou dans les championnats de beauté canine où est exigé la pureté ou le pedigree.
Caractéristiques du Doberman albinos
Indépendamment de la différence de couleur, le doberman albinos possède les mêmes caractéristiques physiques que le doberman standard. Ces caractéristiques sont :
- Grande taille, ces chiens pèsent entre 30 et 40 kg et pour une taille comprise entre 60 et 70 cm au garrot.
- Élégance.
- Harmonie complexe, car la hauteur est presque similaire à la longueur du corps, les membres antérieurs et postérieurs sont articulés selon des angles égaux et la profondeur de la poitrine coïncide avec la longueur des membres.
- Oreilles pointues et dressées.
- Fine queue.
- Poil court et brillant.
- Dans le cas du doberman albinos, les yeux et la truffe ne sont pas pigmentés et ils sont bleus ou bleu clair, et sa truffe est rose.
En ce qui concerne son tempérament, il faut prendre en compte le fait que, comme pour tous les autres spécimens de Doberman, ces chiens ont un caractère très marqué, très énergique en attaque, rustique et intelligent. Pour toutes ces raisons, ils ont besoin d'un tuteur expérimenté dans le dressage de ce type d'animal. Bien socialisés et dressés, ce sont de fantastiques compagnons, très loyaux et protecteurs envers les leurs.

Comment s'occuper d'un Doberman albinos ?
De manière générale, s'occuper d'un Doberman blanc n'est pas vraiment différent de s'occuper d'un autre Doberman. Pour vous occuper d'un Doberman albinos, on vous recommande de :
- Bien vous occuper de ses dents et de ses oreilles afin de prévenir les maladies otiques, comme les otites, et les problèmes dentaires, comme la maladie parodontal ou le tartre.
- Vermifugation de routine afin de prévenir les maladies parasitaires.
- Vaccination pour prévenir les principales maladies infectieuses canines.
- Brossage et bain si nécessaire.
- Contrôles vétérinaires de routine pour surveiller la santé.
- L'alimentation saine et de bonne qualité afin de s'assurer que tous les nutriments sont présents en quantités suffisantes.
S'occuper de la peau d'un Doberman blanc
En plus des soins généraux dont ont besoins tous les chiens, les Dobermans albinos requièrent des soins spéciaux en comparaison de ceux qui ne sont pas atteints d'albinisme, ceci est précisément dû à l'absence de pigment de leur peau. Ainsi, le principal risque pour les Dobermans blancs est celui du cancer de la peau, tel que le mélanome, car ils ne possèdent pas de barrière protectrice de la peau et une fourrure pigmentée contre les rayons ultraviolets du soleil.
Ils peuvent également souffrir d'une gêne oculaire en cas de forte luminosité parce qu'ils ont des yeux clairs, et vous pourriez peut-être avoir besoin de vous procurer des lunettes spéciales pour albinos qui permettront d'atténuer un grand pourcentage du rayonnement solaire.
De manière générale, pour réduire le risque de problèmes de peau chez les Dobermans blancs, vous devez prendre en compte les conseils suivants :
- Évitez de laisser votre chien à l'extérieur pendant les heures de plus fort rayonnement, qui se situent entre 12 h et 17 h en été. Par conséquent, il vaut mieux que vous le promeniez au lever du soleil ou à son coucher.
- Évitez de l'exposer au soleil pendant trop longtemps et prévoyez toujours un endroit où il pourra se mettre à l'ombre.

Problèmes de santé du Doberman albinos
Bien que l'espérance de vie d'un doberman blanc se situe entre 10 et 13 ans, en plus d'un risque accru de cancer de la peau, il est prédisposé aux maladies suivantes :
- Maladie de von Willebrand : maladie de la coagulation sanguine causée par une déficience héréditaire du facteur de von Willebrand, qui est essentiel à la fonction plaquettaire. Les dobermans blancs atteints de cette maladie saignent excessivement après une blessure ou une opération et présentent des saignements de nez, des saignements gingivaux ou des saignements du tube digestif.
- Syndrome de Wobbler : Il s'agit d'une maladie caractéristique de la race dans laquelle la compression de la moelle épinière est causée par une malformation du canal rachidien ou une instabilité des vertèbres dans la région cervicale. En conséquence, les dobermans blancs affectés souffrent de douleurs au niveau du cou et de difficulté à marcher et ils peuvent finir par être paralysés.
- Dilatation-torsion gastrique : Comme c'est une race de grande taille à la poitrine profonde, l'estomac a tendance, après de gros repas, de l'exercice, etc., à se dilater et à se remplir de liquide, d'air ou de gaz et à se tordre, s'étranglant et empêchant le retour correct du sang au cœur en comprimant la veine cave caudale. Cela fait baisser la pression cardiaque et le chien est en état de choc et peut mourir s'il n'est pas traité d'urgence.
- Atrophie progressive de la rétine : maladie caractérisée par la dégénération graduelle de la rétine dans laquelle elle perd ses photorécepteurs (cônes et bâtonnets). Les chiens souffrent initialement d'une cécité nocturne qui, à mesure que le problème progresse, devient une cécité complète.
- Hypothyroïdie : maladie endocrinienne caractérisée par une diminution des hormones thyroïdiennes T3 et T4. Celles-ci sont impliquées dans de nombreuses fonctions de l'organisme et sont nécessaires à chacune de ses cellules, participant au bon fonctionnement du métabolisme, du cœur et d'autres systèmes, de sorte qu'un déficit entraîne une diminution des différentes fonctions, provoquant l'apparition d'une multitude de symptômes cliniques chez les Dobermans affectés.
- Cardiomyopathie dilatée : maladie du muscle cardiaque dans laquelle il s'affaiblit et s'allonge, entraînant la dilatation des ventricules et l'incapacité du cœur à pomper le sang vers l'organisme, ce qui peut provoquer des signes d'insuffisance cardiaque.
- Narcolepsie : trouble du sommeil dans lequel les chiens affectés sont extrêmement somnolents à tout moment ou ont des crises de sommeil soudaines à tout instant de la journée.
